How GRIP STRENGTH Predicts TYPE 2 DIABETES
Grip strength is measured using a hand dynamometer (hand grip dynamometer). Grip strength values, when divided by body weight (normalized grip strength), predicts type 2 diabetes risk. This video covers a study that my research team conducted where we established grip strength cut points to detect type 2 diabetes risk. These cut points can be used in fitness settings (health clubs or gym like planet fitness), community settings (health fair), or in the clinic as a regular health screening tool. Type 2 diabetes symptoms are not apparent in early stages of the condition.
